Sorry Nikon

There has been a great deal of digital ink spilled over what are probably the best three cameras to come out in the last year: The Sony A7Riii, the A7iii and the Nikon D850. All three are great cameras and some have pointed to the D850 as the best of the bunch. I’m going to be arrogant and say “Sorry, you’re wrong”.

Trying to compare the Nikon which is an old fashioned DSLR with a flippy mirror to the Sony mirrorless contenders is like trying to compare the Stanley Steamer to a modern Ferrari.

It’s a new world out there with live view photography and no more chimping. The Nikon is a holdout of a bygone era. It’s the best of that bygone era, mind you, but it is soooo 20th century.

Sorry to be harsh, but the best of the new 21st century technology is coming from Sony.

  1. Lenses, especially higher-end superzoom/telefoto lenses for mirrorless are either impossible to get or insanely expensive here in South Africa. That is why we use solidly built Canon EOS 80D or 5D IV with L-series lenses, such as 100-400mm. Nobody wants to smell a lion’s breath while focusing to shoot. 🙂 🙂
