Consumer product testing group Stiftung Warentest recently came out with a list of it’s best full frame cameras. The top 3 places were occupied by Sonys. The A99ii came in third place behind the A7iii and the A7Riii. That’s pretty illustrious company! Stiftung Warentest is known for its unbiased opinions. Here is how the organisation is described in Wikipedia: Stiftung Warentest is a German consumer organisation … Continue reading Sony A99ii one of the best cameras in the world according to Germany’s Stiftung Warentest
I edited this video with iMovie. You can do some pretty amazing things with this little app. I was inspired by the work of Peter McKinnon. Check out his channel. Shot on a Sony Alpha A99ii and an iPhone X. Hard to tell the difference between the two! I’m hoping to get more subscribers to my YouTube channel. Please tell your friends. Cheers, Michael Continue reading Fun with video editing!
We’ve been hearing a lot of talk lately about the feature set of the Sony A7iii and the A7Riii. Things like the Eye Focus tracking. The autofocus system will lock on an eye and track it on a moving subject. This got me thinking, I know I can do Eye AF with the RX100iii but what can the A99ii do? I had already programmed a … Continue reading Still can’t believe how advanced my Sony A99ii is!
Just came across an interesting article here. Shutterbug named the Sony A99ii the best Professional DSLR of the year. The article came out January 24th, 2018 so some of the newer Sony cameras such as the A9 and A7Riii were not considered as they came out too late for the 2017 TIPA awards deadline. Still, it’s nice to see my camera considered one of the best … Continue reading Shutterbug named the Sony A99ii “Best DSLR Professional” of the year.

Kind of like a hall of fame, the Nihon Camera Foundation selects annually a series of cameras that can be regarded as “meaningful in terms of historical significance, being particularly popular in the market, or meaningful in terms of technology histories”. The “historical camera review committee” consisting of experts and academics experts that examines and selects all new products launched in a year. I just saw … Continue reading Sony A99ii selected as Japanese historical camera in 2016.
Just came across something interesting today with my A99ii. I just received a new iPhone X and set up the Bluetooth interface between it and the camera to enable geotagging. Normally, you should have the PlayMemories app running in the background to get the information to transfer from the phone to the camera. I was startled to find that the camera was connecting automatically to … Continue reading Sony A99ii bluetooth geotagging and the iPhone X
Fujifilm has just announced the new X-E3. It’s a rangefinder style camera that includes Bluetooth communications. I’m wondering if Fuji will transfer GPS data from a smart phone to the camera like the Sony A99ii? This may be a new trend. I hope they do. This is a very nice camera which would make a great addition as a small/light kit. We’ll see. Continue reading Fujifilm X-E3
I’ve raved about the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 lens that I purchased for a song a little while ago. I’d been using it with my Sony A77ii and was quite pleased with the results. I decided to try it on my new A99ii. Oh my. What a difference the 42 megapixels does! Suddenly, I was discovering green and purple fringing that was all but invisible on … Continue reading A 42Mp sensor brings out all the flaws of glass!
I’ve been experimenting with the geolocating capabilities of the Sony A99ii. The camera uses Bluetooth to communicate with a cell phone and gets the GPS location from the phone to write it directly to the picture EXIF. I haven’t had any troubles establishing the connection between the camera and the phone. The PlayMemories app must then be running to send the GPS information to the … Continue reading Geolocating with the Sony A99ii
